KARATE

A traditional martial art from Japan that consists of strikes with both hands and feet. Basics, forms (kata) and sparring (kumite) are used to promote fitness and the ability to defend oneself. Promotion is at the discretion of the instructor, and allows the student to see tangible progress.

Karate helps one develop discipline, self control, patience, confidence and courage.

Image Brooklyn Dojo is proud to teach Oyama Enomichi Karate, a practical, full-contact, self-defense system descended from Soshu S. Oyama's World Oyama Karate, Sosai Mas Oyama's Kyokushin Karate and  Gichin Funakoshi's Shotokan Karate.

Alfred DiGrazia, founder of Oyama Enomichi Karate, was Brooklyn branch chief for World Oyama Karate Organization for over 20 years. He trained with Soshu Shigeru Oyama, Kyokushin Karate’s fighting master and a student of Mas Oyama, the founder, who was taught by the founders of Shotokan and Goju-Ryu.

We are a growing organization, with new branches planned in such diverse places as Richmond Virginia, Florida and Alabama, in addition to the Honbu (Headquarters) located in Brooklyn NY. Many of Shihan’s branch instructors have been with Shihan Alfred for 18 years or more.

Oyama Enomichi Karate emphasizes progressive development of strength, flexibility, and aerobic capacity.

Unfortunately today many karate schools and organizations focus only on tournament competition. Oyama Enomichi Karate understands this and ensures that all of our students are given an opportunity to reach their personal goals, whether that is becoming a competitive fighter, losing 20 pounds or just helping you meet your short and long term goals that you have set for yourself.

Listed below are some of the areas we help you focus on:
Goal setting: We spell out the program and work with you to set a plan to meet those goals.
Physical training: Through the physical we can often get a better understanding of ourselves.
Mental training to help give you that non – quitting attitude.
Meditative training: To help you calm the mind and learn to control your thoughts.
